Hartleys Creek Falls is an amazing waterfall nestled in the middle of a dense forest. The hike to the falls is 3.5km one way and it starts near the town of Wangetti which is located on the road from Cairn to Port Douglas. About 2.2km up the track you will pass Flat Rock Swimming Hole which is also a nice place to swim. In case you run out of energy or if it’s simply too hot, Flat Rock makes for a good backup swimming spot with its small cascades, spa shaped swimming hole and series of large flat rocks. Hartleys Creek Falls on the other hand, has a huge plunge pool and lots of shady trees. Both of these swimming holes are 100% croc free as they are well up above the tidal zone of Hartleys Creek.
Directions
The Hartleys Creek Falls carpark and hike are not signposted. The car park is located opposite Hartley Street in the town of Wangetti. When coming from the Cairns direction along the Captain Cook Highway, instead of turning right onto Hartley Street, turn left onto a small unnamed driveway instead. To get to the falls you will need to hike along a dirt track which starts at the metal gate in the carpark. The track has a medium grade and includes a few small hills and valleys.
