Lake McKenzie is a freshwater lake on Fraser Island with perfectly white sand and crystal clear blue water. The sand around the lake is made from pure, white silica. This is one of the most visited attractions on Fraser Island and it is indeed an amazing experience to swim in this lake. Bring some goggles and be amazed by how far you can see in the water. A great place to cool down on a hot day. Access is by high clearance 4WD only. You can also hike in from the town of Eurong. It’s a long hike but it is well shaded in some parts and the path is solid ground so you can hike it fairly quickly. To find the start of the hike follow Easton Street to the northern most roundabout. Follow Eurong Road for a few metres and you will see a sign and a walking path leading off with a dingo fence and gate. Follow this path to the north and you’ll be on your way. It’s roughly a 12km hike one way. There are a few hills along the way but it’s generally a flat path with nice sub tropical rain forest in some sections. A very pleasant hike with the reward of swimming in the lake when you get there!
