Redbank Gorge is a small gorge west of Alice Springs along the West MacDonnell Ranges. There is a small permanent swimming hole in the gorge and the water is ice cold. It is a nice place to cool off in the heat of summer. The walk from the car park to Redbank Gorge is 1.3km. Some of the walk is along a sandy creek bed.
Redbank Gorge is also a great place to go canyoning. A wetsuit and some kind of flotation device is recommended if you would like to go venturing up the gorge. There are a series of pools that you can swim though. After each pool you must free climb up the canyon to the next pool. If you keep going up the gorge for about 400 hundred metres you will eventually come out the other side of the mountain range. Note: Canyoning is extrememly dangerous. Enter at your own risk!
